i am an software engineer by day and embedded hacker by night. no electronic device is safe when i am around. The
JuiceBox,
GeePee2x,
iPAQ, and countless
others have met similar fates. No part to small too solder (except BGA)... When I am not hacking existing products I like to make
new ones.
In my haxorizing I strictly work with open source linux based tools (I don't have a Windows box, need to borrow a Mac, and don't have money for expensive tools) for building (
gcc,
make and the like), probing (
jtagtools/jtager), interacting (
minicom). When I can I build my own tools like my jtag wiggler (ok it's not that tough to build...). Half of my tools are hacks themselves, probably should post them as well.
I've been seen on Makezine and similar blogs for some of my
projects like an incredibly simple
flashlight that I build one evening. However at present I am smitten with the
blackfin DSP from Analog Devices. I do a lot of work with uClinux in my professional and private life and have shared some of it
here.
In 2006 I was married to the lovely and talented
Elizabeth Lewis . She is a physician assistant student at Duket. She is smart, funny, and the perfect sanity check for me.
Languages
- C/C++
- Python - absolute favorite

- Bash
while i know others and can pick up new languages as needed I am not as well versed in them as I am in the above. i've played with expect, javascript, php but i wouldn't say that i know them.
Arch
- ARM (9/Xscale, some 7)
- Blackfin BF537, BF532
- AVR (ATmega32, ATtiny26)
- PIC (16f84a, 16f628a) - I haven't used PICs for a while since the AVR has better OSS support
- x86 (who hasn't?)
