BeamSymet

about

this is the first moving BEAM robot that I made. The foot is made by glomming super glue onto the rotor shaft of a walkman motor. The hemispherical shape of the foot ensures that it always make good contact with the ground. As expected it works best one hard, smooth, flat, level surfaces. Symets are great to let wander around since they have such a robust way of changing direction whenever they run into an obstacle.

this is driven by BH's FLED SE and uses a huge solar panel (panasonic BP-242221, 5.5V) and charges quickly. the trigger is a Radio Shack red FLED covered in military ink. The radio shack FLEDs impare the bot in noon time light and they are kinda junk parts which should be avoided. in such bright light i need to cover 1/2 the panel to get any movement otherwise the engine locks up and just sits there. however in almost no light the engine runs great (under flouresent light from 15' away it fired every minute or so). i added a 6.8uF cap across the motor terminals to make it turn on harder.
