Masur Dal (little orange lentils)

For 4 people

Ingredients

  • Masur Dal – 1 cup
  • Chopped Onion – 1 large
  • Turmeric Powder – ½ tsp
  • Chili Powder – ¼ tsp
  • Coriander Powder – ½ tsp
  • Salt – ½ tsp
  • Oil – 4 tbsp
  • Green Chillies – 3 or 4 whole
  • Green Coriander Leaves – few stems

Method

  1. Wash Dal and drain.
  2. Mix together onions, turmeric powder, chili powder, coriander powder, salt and oil with the dal and add 2 cups of water.
  3. Bring to boil; cover and reduce heat. Simmer until the dal is soft and the water is nearly gone.
  4. Add green chilies and chopped coriander leaves.
  5. Taste for salt.
